En
automne de l'an de grâce 1842, Monsieur
Alexis Caron, ainsi que sa femme dame Angélique
Frigault et leurs enfants, habitants de St-Thomas
de Montmagny, s’échouèrent
sur les rives de Grande-Vallée et furent
forcés de se bâtir un abri temporaire
sur le bord de la rivière pour passer
l’hiver et décidèrent, par
la suite, de s'établir pour de bon.
En l'honneur de ces premiers arrivants et habitants de Grande-Vallée,
ce motel porte le nom de cette dame pionnière.
In the year 1842, the
family of Mr Alexis Caron and his wife lady Angelique
Frigault from St-Thomas of Montmagny, Quebec, while
sailing along the northern coast of the Gaspé peninsula,
were obliged to take refuge in the natural bay of Grande-Vallée
because of a sudden storm and since it was late in
the summer were forced to build themselves a temporary
shelter to pass the winter and decided by then to make
it their home.
And it is in the honour of these first settlers that the motel was named Frigault. |
